The Bribery Act

Evidence suggests businesses are currently looking at whistleblowing procedures to ensure they comply with The Bribery Act. One City law firm reported a 3,250% increase in enquiries about liability following the introduction of the Act.

You may have been inundated with information on this matter and are no doubt aware companies are required to have in place “adequate procedures” to prevent bribery. The Government has stated that such procedures will include “the introduction of whistleblowing procedures so that staff can raise concerns safely and confidentially”.

Lord Justice Thomas, the second most senior criminal judge, said corruption was “much more serious” than price-fixing, which attracts fines of tens of millions of pounds.

Compliance with the Act does not need to be a problem; in fact it may be a blessing in disguise as a robust confidential reporting procedure can make you aware of a wide range of issues within your organisation. Safecall provides a 24 hour independent service to some of the UK’s major companies. We report concerns directly to you and are more than compliant with the Act.
